Along with physical health and spiritual maturity, there is one more thing I wanted to better about myself this year....MY SMILE!!
Now, those who know me would question why I wanted to do such a thing because "Alondra your teeth look fine, you're crazy!" Don't get me wrong. I don't consider my teeth in poor shape, however, I've just always wanted to have a mouth full of perfectly aligned teeth!
So I decided that this would be the year to do so! I've got the money and the patience for it so why not?!
I opted to go the Invisalign route because I assumed that it would be a nice, inconspicuous way to straighten my teeth and fast!
Well...in my case...it's going to be fast for sure...BUT my hopes of a UOENO situation taking place in my mouth was shattered.

That's me with the Invisalign aligners in my mouth. It's obvious that there is something going on with my teeth but ya just can't quite put your finger on it, right? Mmmhmm, I know. Let me school ya....
I had to have what are called attachments placed on just about every tooth except the back ones. These are little hooks that are glued to your teeth for the trays to attach to. They ensure that your teeth are moving properly and in the time frame that they are expected to shift. I qualified for the Express 10 plan which means that I will be done with treatment in 10 trays...that's just 5 months. (Each tray is worn for 2 weeks at a time). Because my process is so speedy, I had to get more attachments on my teeth so that all my teeth will be FLAWLESS by August. It's not too long, but it definitely makes me a little self conscious knowing that I have to wear these trays that make it appear as if I have calcium spots all on my teeth. I almost want to wear a shirt that says "I SWEAR I BRUSH AND FLOSS DAILY!" But I'll get over it. I think about the end result and I get excited.
Currently I am only on my first tray, so I have a ways to go, but it really hasn't been that bad at all. I haven't experienced much discomfort at all with this tray and my speech is only slightly affected when I have them in. It's a small price to pay for such a grand outcome.
I feel it's important that we take the time to get something for ourselves that we really want. Especially if you're unmarried and without children. I say go for it! Be it a smile, a vacation, a new car, an expensive bag...do that for yourself! It brings about an unmatched sense of fulfillment. Nothing is better than marveling at something you did all by your lonesome! The goal is to feel good and focus on YOU! Your happiness is key! In August I'm going to be smiling more than ever, not because my teeth will be Colgate Poster worthy, but because I had a desire, made the investment, and saw it through! What will you do for you this year??
